About Jay

Jay Dudding (They/Them) is fascinated with sound. In particular, Jay is interested in sonification (the process of turning data into sound) and deriving inspiration from places and people. Jay’s experiences with immigration, the LGBT+ community, and mental health have all served to inspire their work. Their philosophy of art pushes them to collaboration in order to create their work, whether with dancers, performers, other composers, or even the birds, rivers, and wind of their surroundings.

In 2022, Jay moved to Ireland to attend the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and completed an MA in Composition and Creative Music Practice under Dr. Eoin Callery and Dr. Oscar Mascareñas. Their BM was completed at East Carolina University under Dr. Mark Taggart, Dr. Travis Alford, and Dr. Ed Jacobs. Jay Dudding currently lives in North Carolina. 

When not composing, Jay likes blacksmithing, making art, and watching too much Star Trek.
